West Maui Travel Advisory

In West Maui, recent wildfires have tragically led to the devastating destruction of lives, residences, cultural landmarks, historical sites, and businesses in Lahaina Town. While the Maui fire has left us heartbroken, we are grateful that Valley Isle Resort and the Kahana area were spared.

In accordance with Governor Green’s recent announcement, all of West Maui except Lahaina Town will fully reopen on Sunday, October 8th. Please visit the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s website for up-to-date information about traveling to West Maui.

Once West Maui reopens, the businesses in Kaanapali, Honokowai, Kahana, Napili, and Kapalua will be accepting visitors. If you have enjoyed West Maui in the past, please consider planning your next trip to one of these locations to help support businesses in those areas.

Is Valley Isle Resort Located Near the Maui Fire?

Valley Isle Resort is located in the Kahana subdivision of West Maui and was untouched by the fires. It’s situated between Kaanapali and Kapalua, both areas that were also untouched by the fires. While much of West Maui has a Lahaina address, the affected area is known as Lahaina Town and is located about 15 minutes away from Valley Isle Resort.

Visiting West Maui When It Reopens

If you decide to visit West Maui when it reopens, please do so with empathy and compassion. Be mindful that many of the people working at local establishments may have been directly or indirectly impacted by the fires and might not want to talk about it. We urge visitors to be especially kind and respectful as the community continues to deal with this tragedy.

How You Can Help

The best way you can help is by donating either your time or money. There are a number of ways to donate money listed on the Maui Nui Strong website, as well as volunteer opportunities. There are also countless verified GoFundMe campaigns if you’d like to help out someone directly.

If you’d like to volunteer, we highly recommend helping at the distribution center just a short walk from the resort at the Kahana Gateway Shopping Center. They need volunteers to help pack boxes and hand out supplies daily. You can help the entire day or for part of the day as time permits.
